Who Is God?

Most Christians believe in God, but many hesitate when asked to explain who He is or why they believe the Bible’s message.

If someone asked you today,

“Why do you believe what you believe?”
“Do you read your Bible?”
“How do you know the Bible is true?”

How would you respond?

These are not trick questions. They are transformational ones. They invite us to examine our faith more deeply and rediscover the heart of the God we worship.

Why Christians Believe the Bible

Voddie Baucham once summarized his faith in Scripture this way:

“I choose to believe the Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents, written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses, reporting supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies, and all claimed their writings are Divine and not of human origin.”

That’s not blind faith—it’s reasonable trust in the evidence of God’s revelation.

The Bible’s Reliability

The Bible is not one book, but 66 individual writings in three languages—Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek composed by 40 authors over 1,500 years, yet unified in one message: God’s plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.

No other ancient document compares to its accuracy, preservation, or prophetic fulfillment.
Even modern translations (ESV, NASB, NIV, CSB, etc.) are not “translations of translations.” They come directly from the original manuscripts, which have been painstakingly compared and verified.

Eyewitness Testimony

The Bible was written by those who saw what they proclaimed. Hundreds witnessed Jesus’ miracles, and over 500 people saw Him alive after His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:6). Many were persecuted and even martyred rather than deny what they had seen.

This is not a myth. Its history is confirmed by courage.

Prophetic Fulfillment

Centuries before Jesus’ birth, God revealed His plan through prophecy. Psalm 22:1~ “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” was written a thousand years before Christ, describing crucifixion long before it existed. This remarkable accuracy sets the Bible apart as God’s divine Word, not man’s invention.

The God of the Bible: Creator, Relational, and Purpose-Giver

So who is this God the Bible reveals?

God Is Our Creator

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” ~Genesis 1:1

Before anything existed…time, matter, or space…God was. Every star in the sky, every heartbeat, every law of physics bears His signature. Creation is God’s canvas, declaring His power, wisdom, and beauty.

Romans 1:20 reminds us that “His invisible attributes… have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made.” When we look at creation, we see the artistry of the eternal Creator who designed it all for His glory and our good.

God Is Relational

“Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness.” ~ Genesis 1:26

Notice the words Us and Our. From the beginning, God reveals Himself as one God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Humanity was uniquely made in His image. Unlike any other creature, we were designed for a relationship with Him and one another.

You were created to reflect His character, know His voice, and walk in His love. God is not distant. He is deeply personal and invites you to get to know Him.

God Gives Purpose

“Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” ~ Genesis 1:28

God not only created mankind, but He also commissioned us. He gave Adam and Eve the sacred responsibility to steward creation, to multiply goodness, and to live as image-bearers of His kingdom.

Our lives have a divine design. When we forget this, we lose our sense of direction. When we remember it, we rediscover peace, purpose, and meaning.

God Created Us for His Pleasure

“For You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.” ~ Revelation 4:11

God didn’t create you because He was lonely. He created you as an overflow of His love.
You are not an accident or an afterthought. You were created on purpose and for a purpose: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

Why This Matters for the Christian Life

When you understand the God of the Bible, everything changes.

  • Your identity becomes rooted in His truth, not shifting emotions.
  • Your faith becomes anchored in evidence, not blind tradition.
  • Your worship becomes heartfelt gratitude, not obligation.

The same God who spoke the universe into existence still speaks through His Word today. He is the Creator who designed you, the Father who loves you, and the Redeemer who saves you through Jesus Christ.

A Counselor’s Reflection

At Are You Ready Counseling, I often meet women who know about God but struggle to know who He truly is. They feel distant, disoriented, or unsure of their faith. But when they open Scripture and rediscover the God of the Bible, Creator, Relational, Purpose-Giving, they find peace, clarity, and confidence again.

Healing begins when you meet the true God…and who you are because of Him.
