When Life Feels Like Too Much
I want to ask you something, and I want you to sit with it for a moment.
What do you reach for when everything piles up at once? When the family needs you, the job demands you, the relationships drain you, and something unexpected lands on top of all of it?
Most people reach for control. They overwork, withdraw, numb out, or start managing everyone around them, trying to make the chaos stop. I know because I have done it. And I have sat with hundreds of women who have done the same thing.
None of it works. Not for long.
“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2
David knew what it felt like to reach a breaking point. So did Elijah, Jeremiah, and Paul. Feeling overwhelmed does not make you spiritually weak. It makes you human. And God has never once abandoned a human who cried out to Him.
Why Scripture Is Not Just a Nice Add-On
When life spins out of control, our instinct tells us to grab for solutions. We hustle harder, shut down emotionally, or look to other people to fix what only God can touch. Scripture shows us a completely different direction.
Here is what the Word actually does when we open it in the middle of a storm.
It gives us perspective. Isaiah 55:8 to 9 reminds us that God’s ways and thoughts operate on a completely different level than ours. When we cannot see the full picture, He already holds it. That is not a cliché. That is something to stand on.
It brings comfort that actually holds. John 14:27 gives us peace that the world cannot produce and cannot take away. Romans 8:38 to 39 tells us that absolutely nothing can separate us from God’s love. Not our worst day. Not our biggest failure. Not the thing we are most afraid of.
It redirects our feet when we lose the path. Proverbs 3:5 to 6 tells us to trust God’s wisdom instead of leaning on our own understanding. I tell my clients this all the time. When you feel lost, go back to the Word. Not for inspiration. For direction.
When we open the Bible, we do not just read ancient words. We meet with a living God who speaks directly into our present struggle. That distinction matters more than most people realize.
What to Actually Do When Overwhelm Hits
I am an action-oriented counselor. I do not believe in just feeling our feelings and hoping things improve. God made us to move. Here is what I tell my clients.
Stop and breathe in one verse. Take Psalm 46:10. “Be still and know that I am God.” Say it out loud. Let it interrupt the spiral in your mind. You do not need a thirty-minute quiet time to let truth land. You need one verse and thirty seconds of stillness.
Call out the lies and replace them. Overwhelm feeds on lies. “I am alone.” “I will never get through this.” “God stopped paying attention.” Those thoughts feel true when you are in the thick of it, but feelings do not get to decide what is true. Counter every lie with Scripture. Psalm 46:1 says God is your refuge and strength and an ever-present help in trouble. That is not a suggestion. That is a fact.
Reach out for godly support. God designed the body of Christ so that none of us would carry weight alone. Galatians 6:2 tells us to carry each other’s burdens. That means letting someone carry yours sometimes. Asking for help does not signal weakness. It signals wisdom.
Why Christian Counseling Makes a Difference
Here is something I want you to hear clearly. You can love God deeply, know Scripture well, and still feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, guilt, or emotional exhaustion. That does not mean your faith has failed. It means your brain and your history and your body are all part of this, too.
I spent the first part of my career learning that psychology without God leaves people with tools but no foundation. And faith without any practical help can leave people with truths they cannot figure out how to apply. Christian counseling brings both together.
When you work with me, you get a safe space to process your struggles through the lens of Scripture without judgment. We untangle harmful thought patterns together using biblical truth as the measuring stick. You get practical tools for managing stress, anxiety, and relational challenges while keeping Christ at the actual center, not just mentioned in the opening prayer.
My goal at Are You Ready Counseling is to help you return to God’s truth, reset your mind, and restore your spirit through counseling that stays grounded in Scripture from beginning to end.
What I Want You to Know Today
God sees you right now. He sees the pile. He sees the exhaustion. He sees the part you have not told anyone about yet.
His Word holds the wisdom, comfort, and direction you need for all of it. You do not have to carry this alone. Open your Bible. Cry out to the Lord honestly. And consider taking one step toward counseling where Scripture and real support meet you in the middle of your actual life.
