Does God Hear my Prayer?

Does God Hear My Prayer?

Let me ask you something, honestly. Have you ever poured your heart out to God and walked away feeling like your words hit the ceiling and fell straight back down?

I have. And I have sat with hundreds of women who have felt exactly the same way.

If you have ever found yourself lying awake wondering, “Does God actually hear me?”, I want you to know that question does not disqualify you from faith. It places you in very good biblical company. And Scripture has a clear answer.

The Bible Does Not Leave You Guessing

When you ask whether God hears your prayer, the Word gives you a confident yes.

Psalm 34:15 says, “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry.” God does not sit far off, distracted or indifferent, while you try to get His attention. He is fully aware of every whispered plea, every tear, and every groan too deep for words (Romans 8:26).

His listening ear never closes to His children. Not when you are struggling. Not when you feel unworthy. Not when the same prayer has gone up a thousand times with no visible answer.

Now, here is where I want to be honest with you, because I think a lot of people in church circles skip this part.

Why It Does Not Always Feel That Way

Knowing the truth and feeling the truth are two different things. I teach this to my clients constantly. We have to stop letting our emotions be the deciding vote on what is real.

If you have prayed for healing and still feel sick, prayed for provision and still face lack, prayed for a breakthrough and still sit in the same stuck place, it is natural to wonder if God is paying attention. But natural does not mean true.

Here is what Scripture actually says about why answers do not always come the way we expect.

God operates on His timeline, not ours. Habakkuk 2:3 tells us that what God purposes will come at the appointed time and will not be late according to His schedule. We just have a tendency to think His schedule should match ours.

God often has something bigger in mind. Ephesians 3:20 says He does immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. I have watched this play out in my own life more times than I can count. What looked like a closed door turned out to be God clearing the path for something I never would have thought to pray for.

God uses the waiting to shape us. James 1:2 to 4 tells us that the testing of our faith produces endurance. Waiting is not wasted. It is forming something in you that easy answers never could.

When the Bible Says God Does Not Listen

Now I am going to say something that might feel uncomfortable, and I am going to say it anyway because I believe in telling the truth.

Scripture does describe moments when God turns away from prayer. Not because He stops loving us. Because the relationship has a break in it that needs addressing.

Psalm 66:18 puts it plainly. If someone cherishes sin in their heart, God does not listen. James 4:3 tells us that wrong motives block prayer. Mark 11:25 connects a refusal to forgive with unanswered prayer.

This is not about earning God’s attention. It is about a relationship. God wants honest, humble, faith-filled communication with His children. When we show up with clenched fists, unconfessed sin, or a heart full of bitterness, we create a barrier that we have the power to remove.

The invitation is always open. We just have to come honestly.

How to Pray With Actual Confidence

Here is what I tell my clients who wrestle with this. Stop performing for God and start talking to Him.

Pray according to His will. First John 5:14 promises that when we pray in line with what God wants, He hears us. This requires us to know what He wants, which is another reason I push the five minutes a day in His Word.

Pray in Jesus’ name. John 14:13 to 14 makes clear that our prayers reach God because of what Christ accomplished, not because of how well we put our sentences together. We do not earn a hearing. Jesus already secured it.

Pray with a surrendered heart. Psalm 37:4 tells us to delight in the Lord and trust Him with the outcome. This is the hardest part for most of us. We want to lay it down and then quietly pick it back up when He takes too long. Surrender is not a one-time event. It is a daily practice.

Pray without stopping. First Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray continually. Not because God needs to be worn down, but because we need to stay in contact. Keep the conversation going even when you do not see movement yet.

What I Want You to Take With You Today

The God who spoke the entire universe into existence also bends down to listen to you. I do not say that as a nice sentiment. I say it because Isaiah 65:24 says, “Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.”

He is already listening before the words form in your mouth.

His delays are not denials. His silence does not mean absence. And your feelings about whether He is tuned in do not change the truth that He is.

Keep praying. Talk to Him like He is in the room, because He is. Be raw with Him. Be honest with Him. Tell Him you are frustrated that you cannot feel Him right now. He can handle that. He already knows anyway.

His ear stays open. His heart stays tender. And His timing will always prove itself faithful.
